Baharudin Mohamed Taib

Background

• Born 27 January 1965; holds a Diploma in Computer Science from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM).[1]
• Before becoming an assemblyman, he served as special assistant to Mohamed Khaled Nordin from 1994 to 2008, across Khaled's terms as MP for Johor Bahru and then Pasir Gudang, and during Khaled's federal roles as Deputy Works Minister (1999-2004) and Minister of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives (2004-2008).[2]
• Climbed the UMNO ranks from 1992, starting in the Johor Bahru division's youth wing, then division committees in Johor Bahru and Pasir Gudang, branch treasurer at Taman Molek (2004-2023), up to Pasir Gudang deputy division chief; also chaired the Taman Molek Residents' Association (2012-2015) and the Permas constituency settlement committee (JPMM, 2013-2018).[2]
• UMNO Pasir Gudang deputy division chief since 2018, deputy to division chief Mohamed Khaled Nordin; served as Chief Whip of the Pasir Gudang Municipal Council in 2020-2021.[1]
• Appointed chairman of Yayasan Pasir Gudang in 2023; the foundation runs Hari Raya aid, the MyKasih food-aid programme, visits to chronically ill patients and financial aid for students.[3]
• His initiatives as Permas assemblyman include a free reading-glasses programme, a Wellness Corner for health screening at Taman Air Biru, and a Community Sewing Centre giving free sewing machines to low-income entrepreneurs.[4]
• Won Permas in 2022 with a 7,926 majority.[5]
