An engineer who served as Penang Deputy Chief Minister I (2013-2018) and Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat (2018-2022), Mohd Rashid Hasnon stands for PN after leaving PKR as a founding member to join Bersatu in 2020.
Background
- Born 2 January 1960 in Muar, Johor; an engineer with a BSc in control engineering from the University of Sheffield and an MBA from UKM; holds the title Dato'.[1]
- Educated at the Royal Military College in Sungai Besi and took his A-Levels at Southampton Technical College in the United Kingdom.[2]
- Pantai Jerejak assemblyman and Penang Deputy Chief Minister I (2013-2018); later Batu Pahat MP (2018-2022) and Deputy Speaker of the Dewan Rakyat (2018-2022).[1]
- A founding member of PKR before joining Bersatu in 2020.[1]
- Perikatan Nasional Batu Pahat chairman since 2022, Bersatu Parit Sulong division chief, and deputy chairman of Bersatu's Johor liaison body.[2]
- Active in humanitarian missions: a tsunami relief volunteer in Aceh and Meulaboh (2004), led Ramadan aid missions in Cambodia for JIM Antarabangsa (2009), and joined a Gaza aid mission with MAPIM (2011).[2]
- First Vice-President of the Persatuan Anak Melayu Johor (PAMJ) since 2022.[2]
- Lost the Batu Pahat parliamentary seat in 2022 to Onn Abu Bakar (PKR).[1]
