A former teacher and deputy headmaster at Pei Chun High School, Yeo Tung Siong (杨敦祥) of DAP served two terms as Pekan Nanas assemblyman from 2013 to 2022 and has been a DAP Johor committee member since 2014.
Background
- Born 12 January 1962; sworn in as the N55 Pekan Nanas assemblyman on 21 April 2022.[1]
- Promoted from deputy to chief of the MCA Tanjung Piai division on 12 June 2023, and became a vice-chairman of the MCA Johor State Liaison Committee on 10 November 2023.[1]
- Contested Pekan Nanas in 2018 and lost to Yeo Tung Siong, before capturing the seat in 2022 (50.49%, a 4,835 majority).[2]
- As assemblyman he has pressed for flood mitigation in Pekan Nanas, hit by flooding three times in 2025, backing a proposed RM8.9 million Drainage and Irrigation Department project involving a flap gate and dredging.[3]
- His initiatives include promoting eco-tourism around the area's pineapple plantations, relocating a community-based rehabilitation centre, and providing tuition classes for school students.[4]
